20 April 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 20th April [1885]. Drove out in morning. Went first to Mr Hambro’s & on to see Mrs Bruce abt her ball. At 3½ Susan Hambro called for me in her open carriage & we drove out to Hampstead where I had never been before & I had no idea it was so lovely. We drove round by Finchley & Hendon—& got home at 6. I went to tea with her & Monty came in having returned from poor Val Hambro’s funeral. Blanche dined with us & Mildred who arrived from Roehampton this afternoon. Henry spent the eveng with a short hand writer who took notes for an article in the Contemporary review. They want his views on the Egyptian question & Turkey.
