24 April 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 24th [April 1885]. Edward came to see me in the morning & later I went round to see Blanche. After lunch Henry & I went to Grosvenor House to see the pictures & there met Mr Burton. Besides Gainsboro’s Blue Boy, and Reynolds Mrs Siddons there was nothing there that impressed us very much & many misnomers. I went from there to tea with Maria & at Park Crescent & walking home I stopped at the Thomas Hankeys & paid them a visit. Old Mr Hankey came in & was very cheerful as to the prospects for peace. I went on to see Mamma & sat with her for ½ hour & then had to come home & dress to go & dine with the Hambros. They were quite alone & we had a nice quiet evening.
