8 September 1885 — Baveno
Tuesday. 8th [September 1885]. Addie & Rachel went off to Verona by 8 o’cl boat & came into our room to say goodbye before leaving. I spent the morning packing for our start tomorrow. Morelli & Mlle de Perpigna each came to pay us long visits. Painted after lunch. Showery weather. At 4 Henry & I walked to Villa Clara to call on Mrs Henfrey. Met there a Mr Noel who showed us books full of lovely pen & ink sketches of cathedrals of France. Mlle de Perpigna & Mlle Bujard were there & offered to take me a drive to Stresa as they were going to leave cards on the Dss of Genoas ladies so I went with them. Dined with the Crown Princess in their rooms upstairs. Signor Minghetti was there having arrived this afternoon. Morelli was also there. There were no round games of cards tonight as the little Princesses went early to bed.
