11 September 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 11th September [1885]. Henry took Addie & Rachel out in the morning & I remained at home & wrote letters– Scirocco weather & it was pretty hot. In the afternoon there was a tremendous storm—the thunder rolled incessantly for ¼ hour & torrents of rain came up in whirling clouds but it did not last long so we had tea at 4.30 & went out to see the Edens who are about to leave for Aix les Bain. Henry went to see Genl de Horsey & then joined us at the Edens– We went to the Zattere to enquire after the Holas & found Lucie has had typhoid fever & Hortense has come here from a visit in the country dying of consumption. Home to dinner. No going out as it blew hard after dinner. We had music. Rachel & I played & sang & I played the harmonium.
