23 September 1885 — Cison
Wednesday. 23rd September [1885]. Read & painted in the morning. When we went down to breakfast we found that M. d’Adda had returned from Milan. Mme was better & after breakfast we found her in the drawing room. At 3 Henry, Ninina & I were driven by Ct Brandolin to Soligo to pay a visit to his brother Ct Paolo & his wife. They have a pretty little villa there. They gave us tea in the garden. The Countess was a [illegible word] & tho’ plain had charming manners. Presently we saw another brother Count Guido who tho’ older resembles our host. Ct Annibale left us as he had business. Ninina took us round by Pieve di Soligo & Solighotto & we got home just in time to dress for dinner. Altho’ the weather is still very hot at night there is a charming cool air at Valmarino. Henry & Mme d’Adda began their écarté tonight & Henry won– Two priests came up to play tre sette in the evening.
