10 October 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 10th October [1885]. At ¼ 12 I took Mrs Ball to the Piazzetta & left her there, then came back to Richetti’s & ordered him to send off Addie & my old Priedieux to London. On to Guggenheim where I spent an hour & half looking over old stuffs with a view to having some made, & looking at many of his things. Home to lunch & went out with the Balls to Stabto in gondola, coming home early to prepare for a tea party. The Crown Prince & Pss & Pss Victoria, Mlle de Gersdorff and Mlle de Perpigna, Lord Dunmore & his daughter Muriel, Miss Maxwell came to hear Count Loredan play the piano. He played Chopin, Liszt & Gottschalk & ended by God save the Queen set by the latter—so loud & violent that we trembled for the chords of the piano. As soon as he began it the Crown Prince stood up & we all did the same altho’ the Pss bid me be seated– I told her I could not do so out of respect for our Queen. It was about 7 when they left.
