3 November 1885 — Florence
Tuesday. 3rd November [1885]. Augusta & I went to the Uffizi leaving the men to go out alone– They went to the Pitti & Henry encreased his cold. Mr Spence came to call after lunch & carried them off again to see Walter Savage Landor’s pictures wh are for sale but they found nothing good. I did not go out. I had a long visit from Mrs Bracken– After 5 o’cl tea I went to see Lady Billingham Graham who is in our hotel with her gd daughter Miss de Feil. We dined at 7. Henry, Augusta & I went to the Niccolini theatre to see Fra Diavolo & were joined by Mr Colnaghi. We enjoyed it very much. Saw the same company act it that did it 2 years ago– The prima donna who was then very young & just come out has quite worn out her voice already & looks old– The tenor (Fra Diavolo) & the 2 brigands were very clean & sang well.
