30 November 1885 — Paris
Monday. 30th [November 1885]. I walked out stopping at 11 & returned to the Hotel to meet Dacre at 12 & went to the Louvre shop with him to buy gloves for ourselves & family & then returned to lunch at 1. M. Dreyfus came to call and carried off Henry to the Louvre to see 6 pictures lately bought by the Rothschilds & others to present to the Louvre on which the Directors wanted Henry’s opinion. He told me when he came in they had cost £70,000 & were not worth £20,000 & that the Rothschilds had been taken in. I walked with Dacre as far as Michaud the dressmaker & spent some time there—then walked back to the hotel. It was hot & raining. Mme Weisweiller came to see us. We dined at the Embassy & met Lady Walsham, Lord Cairns, Col. & Mrs Villiers, Mrs Mourney, Mr Leigh, Capt. Conway Seymour.
