21 December 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 21st [December 1885]. After doing accounts—writing &c I went out. Mr Haynes came to take away the frames wh had arrived from Venice & are to be fitted with mirrors between the drawing room windows– Edward Ponsonby came in for a few minutes. I went to see Blanche & took little Olwen with me to Marshall & Snelgroves & then brought her home to lunch with me. Sir Arthur Otway came while we were at lunch– Olwen & I drove to the Zoos where I went to see old Travers & got him to find me a parrot to give Genl Dickson as the grey parrot I gave him at Consple is just dead. Came home by 5 to tea. Mama, Fred Layard & his two daughters Florence & Amy also Nela & Arthur Du Cane came to dine. Billiards in the eveng. About 6 this evening we had a long visit from the Turkish Ambassador Rustem Pasha. We had not seen him since he had given us that brilliant reception in the Lebanon. He has grown old & short & bent & seemed feeble.
