22 December 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Tuesday. 22nd December [1885]. I went out to see Blanche & then to see Susan Hambro & then came home. Had a visit from Miss Sinclair who talked for a long time of her fury against Rustem Pasha & his infamous behaviour to her in having jilted her without a cause. She is thirsting for vengeance & is anxious to let our Queen [be] told of it & to get him turned out. Again I reasoned with her that this is impossible she is determined to try to accomplish it. Maria came in to say she was going down to Putney to see Temmy. Lady Dickson came to lunch with us & we drove out together afterwards. I left her at Gorringe’s shop & came home to tea. Afterwards I went to see Mama & found she has lumbago. Sat with her some time & came home to dress & go & dine with our cousins Mr & Mrs Holmes White.
