25 January 1886 — Knebworth House, nr. Stevenage, Hertfordshire | |
Monday. 25th January [1886]. Lady Lytton persuaded us to remain on till tomorrow; the rest all left for London. A thaw set in & a thick fog so there was no going out. I sketched the gallery all day. We dined at 7 & Lady Lytton, Ladies Betty, Constance & Emily, Miss (the Govss, Miss Polly Liddell who arrived in the afternoon & I went to a penny reading in the village. We drove there. Lady Constance played a piece on the Piano; Lady Betty played the violin, Miss Liddell sang to the Banjo & other Ladies & gentlemen also sang. We got home abt 10 & had some sandwiches & retired to bed. | |
