28 January 1886 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Thursday. 28th [January 1886]. Alice had a swelled face & could not go out. I walked alone in the morng & shopped. After lunch I drove out with Henry & went to Burlington House to see the collection of old Masters now on view. There is a family picture belonging to the Oliver family in wh is the portrait of Dean Layard. I left cards & went to call on Lady Thompson at 35 Wimpole St & got home late. B. came to tea. We dined with the Misses D. Gordon. Sir Coutts Lindsay did the honors for them.
