3 March 1886 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Wednesday. 3rd March [1886]. It was a miserably cold day & snowed a great deal. Mrs Burr came to see me & then took me out in her brougham to do some shopping & then brought me home. I went to the People’s dinners to help as usual & home to luncheon, at ¼ 3 I went in the carriage to Blanche’s door to call for [her] & drive her down to Putney to pay Miss Oliver a visit at 5 Ravenna Road. Found her ill in bed & we sat with her some time & had tea in her room. On the way down we stopped first to see Arthur at 40 Half Moon St. He is laid up with a bad cold—then at 8 Onslow Gardens to give Connie a message. It was past 4 when we got to Putney. It was dreary seeing Temmy’s nice little house all being dismantled and her empty bed & to feel we should never see the house again. We got back to London late—after 6. Henry & I dined with Lady Marion Alford & met Lady Brownlow, looking very handsome—old Miss Mary Boyle, Mr Arthur Balfour MP & Mr Robert Bourke. In the evening Henry & I went to Lady Rosebery’s party at Lansdowne House wh was select & very dull.
