Saturday. 27th March [1886]. Henry & I drove out after lunch to Burne Jones’ studio. Henry talked over with him the scheme of designs he is making for the completion of the mosaics in the American Church at Rome. He would not show us the picture he is painting for the Academy as it was not forward eno’. He has a book turned in old fashioned style full of designs for mosaic wh he said he made of an eveng. They are very quaint & original & practical. We went on to his brother in law’s Poynter & saw his pictures for the Academy two painfully bad woodeny portraits one of Genl Graham—the other of Ld Ripon. | |
