22 May 1886 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 22nd [May 1886]. I went after breakfast to say good bye to Blanche & then to Mama & by 11 o’cl train we started for Brussels. We had a splendid crossing from Dover to Calais so fine that I was able to lunch on board & we sat on deck the rest of the time. It was an exceedingly hot day. We arrived at Brussels at 7.40 & were met at the station by the Master of Napier & went to Hotel Mengelle in the Rue Royale. Marquis Maffei the Italian Minister our old friend came to see us while we were dining to welcome us.
