25 May 1886 — Brussels
Tuesday. 25th May [1886]. I was tired & got up late. We went abt 11 to see the Cathedral but found we were not allowed to go about until after the service—so as it was rainy & showery we returned to the hotel to wait till 12 when we returned to the Cathedral– It is very fine & simple & the fine windows put there by Charles V to various members of his family are very interesting. We returned to lunch. After 2 Maffei came & we 3 went off to visit the antiquity shops & went from one to the other till nearly 6. We had a visit from Mr Fish—& as soon as he was gone I had to dress & we went to dine at the English Legation & met the Gosselins & the Master–
