5 August 1886 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Thursday. 5th August [1886]. Lovely day. Fred & I sat out of doors & began cutting out my new piece of carving Monty’s crest– We let the servants go out for the day; they walked up one of the hills above the house. Before 7 o’cl dinner I got Edgar to go to the bridge with me & there got 6 lb. trout wh Edgar gaffed. After dinner I went with him to mouth of river & only got 1 lb. trout, Edgar nothing. We finished up by a try at the bridge nothing. Lovely night. Henry went up to Haande pool & lost a fine salmon by rotten cast. Fred fished L. Gredhus & lost salmon by Thorwald’s slow gaffing.
