8 August 1886 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Sunday. 8th August [1886]. Showery day but pleasant. Fred & I sat in the verandah & carved almost all day. Henry & I went & walked up & down the bridge for an hour before dinner for exercise. Dined at 6. I went out with the Marquis directly after dinner for trout at the mouth of river. Got one small ¾ trout. No whiting. Back at 10, found Fred fishg Lower Gredhus & only got trout. Edgar had got a salmon & a trout. He fished the bridge after Up. Gredhus & I walked up & down with him on the bridge till driven in by a storm of rain. Fred & I had supper & Henry came in with a good trout & then Edgar joined us. It was a very dark night & I went to bed by candlelight for the first time. Edgar’s salmon proved to weigh 17 lbs. His only & first salmon. We were all very glad as it was his last chance as he & Fred leave tomorrow for England.
