14 August 1886 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Saturday. 14th August [1886]. Fine morning but clouded over. I fished bridge after breakfast 0. Carved– Made design for Larsen to carve. Walked towards Noste & along river bank to mouth of river to look out for Monty’s steamer abt 2 o’cl. At 3.30 Henry went off to Kiespool to fish & I went to Lr Gredhus. It was very cloudy & dull & I got very torpid & sleepy & I trailed my fly. Suddenly I was brought “to” by a tug & I had on a fish. We landed on the Bank & got the fish after ½ hour’s play– Saw trout jumping but had no more rises. It was past 6 when I got home & found on “Dagons altar” a salmon of 13 lbs. of Henry’s & my fish turned out to be 22½ lbs. We dined at 7. Cribbage—bed at 10.
