4 October 1886 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 4th [October 1886]. I went to the Gallery to paint & Mrs Burr also went & began a copy of one of Bellini’s Allegories & we came home to lunch together. Henry & Isabel took a walk in afternoon & Mrs Burr & I sat talking till 3 when she took her departure for the Pension Suisse to stay there. Mr Colnaghi & his daughter arrived abt 4 & Isabel & Henry came in & had tea. I had a visit from a Mr Truscott an artist who said he has a commission to paint the Lord’s Supper in fresco in a mission hall at Manchester & wanted to examine old frescoes. I suggested that no fresco painting wd stand in our damp climate & suggested mosaics. He seemed much struck with the idea & said he would return tomorrow to talk to Henry about it. Isabel went to join Mrs Burr at the Pension Suisse. I wrote till dinner. Afterwards we all went out—fine moonlit night. I stopped at the Edens & spent an hour with them while the rest took a row. It was a hot damp scirocco night.
