28 November 1886 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 28th November [1886]. Sore throat & remained in bed till lunch. After lunch we took out the new centre piece to examine. It is a very fine thing in 3 tiers, steel inlaid with gold & silver figures of rivers & the whole surmounted by a Neptune in silver. Henry went out after lunch. Cortelazzo & I talked a bit & then I wrote letters & had tea. Henry came in bringing news of an accident to Mme Hurtado. It appears in leaving the Curtis last night coming down their stairs wh is very steep & out in the court yard she fell & broke her ancle in 3 places. Luckily Mrs Eden was with her & sent at once for the chair Mr Eden is carried in & so got her home & got Drs Cini & Vigna who set the ancle. Olga Mocenigo stayed the night with her. It is a dangerous accident to such a big heavy woman.
