8 January 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 8th January [1887]. I went to Mr Eden in the morning to have another lesson in fly tying & then hurried back to my lace lesson. After lunch I went out to pay visits. Found Emily R. at home—thence to Olga Mocenigo who was in bed—& on to Countess Marcello who had expressed a wish that I should be seen in her salon after 5 that the world might know we had made up our quarrel of 2 years ago when she had thrown us over at a dinner for the Crown P. & Pss because we would not invite her son with her. I had tea there & came in late. We went to the theatre (Rossini) to see a piece of Goldoni’s the “Bugiardo” with Harlequin & Pantaloon. It was not very well given but I had never seen one of those kind of pieces & was glad to have the opportunity.
