18 January 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 18th [January 1887]. The furniture from the long hall was moved, the linen stretched. I arranged the drawing rooms & there was general preparation for tomorrow night. The old Vittoria Tranquilli the lace woman came for a little while to set my pillow right. I did not go out. Henry went to see the Exhibition buildings at the Public Gardens. Emily came to tea & stayed some time working. Henry & I went & dined at the Edens quite alone. We played patience in the evening & came home early.
