4 March 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 4th [March 1887]. Directly after breakfast Mildred came in to see me looking very pale & ill & showed me a letter she had written her father to say she respectfully declined to go to the Drawing Room at all. She had written the same to her mother. I tried to dissuade her from sending it but she remained firm & I told her I had nothing more to say & she must do as she thought best. I took a walk with Blanche & returned for lunch. After lunch I went in to Blanche a few moments to help her arrange her dress & then drove out, left cards & called on Lady Dickson who was at home & Alice Murray who was out. I went to see Mama & Kate & met Arthur & Maria. Dined with Sir Wm Drake & found him very feeble. Mr & Mrs Mundy dined there– She was taken ill & had to go home directly after dinner.
