8 March 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Tuesday. 8th March [1887]. Went out walking in the morning with Blanche. Edward came in after breakfast & we had a long talk over this unhappy business which is wearing us all out. then out with B. I bought flowers for my dinner table tonight off a barrow in Oxford Street & for 4/ I got a quantity of jonquils & white hyacinth. I came home & arranged them while Blanche went to see Kate. B came to lunch here at 1.30 & she took me for a drive; we went to Connie but she was out & finally B. left me at Arthur’s where I was expected to tea. He was out but I waited for him. He came in later—we had tea & I tried to make him accept Cornelia’s overtures of peace & to say he wd accept an invitation to dinner which she talks of sending him. He agreed to do so in case Cornelia will give up seeing Adeline. Our carriage fetched & took me home. We had a dinner party. Lord & Lady Lytton & Lady Betty Lytton, Mr & Mrs Henry Reeve, the Portuguese Minister & Mme d’Antas—Mr John Murray & Miss Annie Murray, Mr Browning. Maria & her 2 girls Ola & Nela came in the evening.
