17 April 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Sunday. 17th April [1887]. Mamma came to see us off for Venice. Blanche’s children came with her adieux & Henry & I started for Charing X station at 10.15. Maria & Rd met us bringing Ola & Nela who were to accompany us. Alice, Hallam, & Ruth & Arthur Du Cane all saw us off. Our train started at 11. We had a perfect passage over to Calais & a quick one. We sat on deck. It was bright tho’ cold. We lunched at Calais & dined at Tergnier. A bad dinner. Had places in sleeping car & passed night pretty well.
