Tuesday. 24th [May 1887]. Index before breakfast. Wrote letters in morng. After lunch I went to Rietti to give him Mr Rutzen’s cheque & then to Biraghi to join Henry & the girls. Mme de Hurtado came to see me & brought 2 Miss Cliffords to introduce. Mr Oxley the “Chaplain designate” came to call & electrified me by reading a letter he had written to the Times asking for £6000 to buy a palace for a church here! Before dinner we worked at the index. After dinner Henry went to the Malibran Theatre. | |
