13 July 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Wednesday. 13th July [1887]. Breakfast 9. Wrote letters in the morning. Mrs Bagot came to lunch & Morelli was at home. Mrs Bagot sat with me talking until nearly 4 when Mrs Henry White an Australian lady introduced by Edgar Layard came to see me on appointment. She was pretty, well dressed & pleasant. She said it was the first time she had been in Europe & she would not exchange Australia for this. As soon as she left Lady Alston came & Signor Frizzoni also. Lady Alston asked us to dinner tomorrow, I said I would let her know. As soon as she was gone I dressed intending to join Henry & Morelli at the Nat: Gallery but it was too late as they had said they wd leave there at 5. So I waited till they came home at 5.30 & gave them tea. Maria & Ola came in & Mrs Colnaghi called & then Blanche came & I went off with her for a walk & her 2 small children Onie & Vere. We walked in the Portland Place Gardens & I came home by 7 & dressed & went off in a cab to dine at 8 Onslow Gardens with Connie. We did not dine till 8 as Charlie was not home from the garden party given by the Salisburys at Hatfield to the Queen. Charlie being in waiting on P. Christian. Lord & Lady Wilfred Seymour, Mr Fitz Clarence, Mr Ernest Villiers dined there also a lively Canadian Miss Roche Blaeve who had come to Europe for the first time & was enchanted at it & delighted to see Charlie after 25 years.
