15 July 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 15th [July 1887]. Ola came to do my hair after breakfast. At 12 Henry & I went in hansom to the National Gallery to meet Lady Eastlake, Mr C. Eastlake, Morelli & Frizzoni. It was the first time I had been there since the new staircase & rooms had been opened & was very much struck with the excellence of the arrangements. Lady Eastlake was wheeled about in a chair & surrounded by her friends enjoyed herself very much. There were many of the late purchases she had never seen as for 3 or 4 years she has been unable to walk. We came home to lunch at 2– At 3.30 I went out driving with Blanche. She left cards & then I left her to pay a visit & came home in her carriage. There came up a thunderstorm & it rained hard for an hour. It is so long since there was any rain that it was most welcome & cooled the air. Had tea & then went to see Mama & sat with her some time. Dined at home & Morelli also.
