14 November 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 14th [November 1887]. Gave out stores. Worked in morng while Mama read to me aloud. It was a dreadfully wet day. I tried to model after lunch but it got too dark. Tea at 5 & then played duets on piano with Mama till dinner. Mrs Burr dined with us & leaves Venice tomorrow. Tonight’s telegrams abt the Prince are a little more reassuring—but I fear there can be no hope. Telegrams of a great row in Trafalgar Square, the troops called out & 70 people taken to hospital. Also news from France that M. Wilson is declared guilty of malpractises & the Govt will have to resign. The lookout all round in dark.
