16 November 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 16th [November 1887]. We got up early intending to go to Padua for the day but it was so dull & wet we had to give it up. Kate sat to me in the morning while Cecil took Mama to the Correr Museum & came back later to fetch Kate & go to San Remo. After lunch Mama & I walked to the Piazza & there met the others & she & Henry & I came home in gondola. Marzials came to tea & to our surprise in walked Css Pisani & she & I had a long talk over the sad news abt the Crown Prince & she told me her own husband had died of the same disease wh he had for 9 months & never kept his bed till the last 3 days. After she left Marzials & I & Kate sang & tried over music & just before dinner time he asked if he might after all stay to dinner much to our delight. In the evening he taught us a new patience.
