24 November 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 24th [November 1887]. Got a note quite early from Mr Christopher Sykes asking if he & Lord Clifden might come to lunch before sailing in the P&O for Egypt. I asked them to come at 1. I modelled all the morning & at 1 these 2 gentlemen came. Lord Clifden is quite a young man & the owner of Holdenby House of wh Cecil Alderson is rector & he hoped to have found them still here. Henry accompanied them on board the P&O, to see them off & came back to fetch me to take a walk in the Piazza. It came on to rain & we came home at 4.30. Mr Jamison & Miss Fearon came to tea also Lady & Miss Trevelyan. Dined upstairs. Patience.
