3 December 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 3rd [December 1887]. Finished my bust of Kate at last & Sr Felici came at 12 to show me how to cut it from the board with a string &c & to shape it off. After lunch Henry took Ola off to Murano to see the glass blowing & 2 of the Trevelyan girls. I walked to see Ersilia. En route I met Carry Eden & she turned back & went there with me. I left her there & went on to the choir practise at the Grand Hotel & then Mlle Wolkoff brought me across in her gondola to the other side of the water & from there I walked home. Mr Woods ARA came to tea & I brought him up to my studio to see my bust of Kate. He was very encouraging & said I ought to exhibit it at the R.A. I said I thought amateur work had better be kept quiet. We dined at 7 & Henry took Ola to hear Faust & I had a busy evening writing & practising guitar.
