11 January 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 11th [January 1888]. Went to studio to paint. The rest of our party Raymond, Henry & Ola went to Padua & Mr Brown with them. Audrey came & played the guitar with me at 12 and lunched with me. Mme Mimaut also came to play with us. Henry & I dined with Sir Alfred & Lady Trevelyan and Ola joined us in the eveng. I left early before music began to accompany Ninina Brandolin to Countess Giustinian’s to be introduced to her. There was an impression abroad that the Css did not like foreigners wh turns out not to be the case– She may have an old prejudice against Austrians. She received me very kindly. There was dancing going on but it was very dull & I was glad to escape early & get home.
