4 February 1888 — Rome
Saturday. 4th [February 1888]. I went to see Lady Bagot & we took a walk with her. We went to the church of S. Maria del Popolo where we found Lady Gregory drawing & after going over the church Lucia & I went up on the Pincio for a little walk in the sun. We met Mrs Bruce there & spoke to her & came back to hotel to lunch. Drove with Henry to the Embassy to call on Sir J. Savile—he was out & we returned to the hotel & in came Sir John to see me. Then came Lady Evelyn Campbell who happens to be at Rome. She walked with me a little on my way to the Gregorys who had a tea party in our honor. We all 3 went in the evening to Mme Minghetti’s at 9 & stayed till 10.30. Found Morelli there & met M. & Mme Pasolini, M. Cambray Digny, Dona Carlo d’Adda &c.
