5 February 1888 — Rome | |
Sunday. 5th February [1888]. Ola & I went to the English church in the Babuino– Henry was laid up with lumbago. I went to the Hotel Victoria to see the Gregorys & beg them to go & see Henry who was not able to move out. I walked out in the afternoon down the Corso to call on Mme Minghetti. She was not in so I went up & waited for her. I was sitting waiting when the door opened & enter a gentleman who took me for Mme Minghetti at first & then we found each other out—he was the new Austrian Consul Genl at Venice Baron Warsberg– Mme Minghetti came soon & after I had paid her a visit I went to see the Dss of Sermoneta who lives next door & then returned home. Henry did not dine but went to bed abt 6. In the evening I had a visit from Mr & Mrs Herbert Jekyll who are at the hotel for a couple of days. | |
