24 February 1888 — Naples
Friday. 24th February [1888]. Ola still laid up & tho’ the weather was finer we did not venture on our expedition to Pompei. Henry went after lunch to the Museum to meet Sir Charles Newton & I went for them in an open carriage & we drove to Capo di Monte to call on Mme Oscar Meuricoffre a widow lady who has taken interest in the poor of Ischia & has taught them to make very pretty straw things of which she is going to send a lot to the Glasgow Exn. We had some difficulty in finding her house La Fiorita but when there it had a splendid view. Played patience.
