4 March 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 4th March [1888]. Sent the nurse out after Cini had been & I remained with Ola. Cini came at 10. The nurse obtained permission to sleep in Ola’s room & therefore undertakes the whole nursing. I went out for a walk with Henry on the Zattere but it was bitterly cold & we did not stay out long. Had a large gathering at tea. Ersilia & Maria, the Brandolins, Mme Persico, Lady Galway, Miss Ames, Dr Facci. Henry & I went to dine with the Trevelyans. They had asked Mr Marzials & as he did not come we sat down without him, at 8.30 he turned up in a brand new suit of brown check clothes & made some kind of excuse by which we gathered that he had been waiting for the clothes to come home from the tailor & hence his lateness. He was very amusing & happy. Fine day.
