7 March 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 7th [March 1888]. Ola going on very well. I sat in her room & worked while the nurse went out in the morning. Miss Holas called. After lunch went out with Henry in gondola. Called on Trevelyans & found them at home, also in Miss Witherell & then Mrs Brown while Henry was taking a walk in the Piazza. Mrs B & I had a talk which led to the conclusion that there was no more hope about our plan– Had tea upstairs. Wrote to Lady Sophia Palmer to tell her of Ola’s illness in case they do not care to come & stay with us. Dined at 7. Henry went to join the Trevelyans at the Opera. I went early to bed. I had a letter from G. de Perpigna with a bad account of the Crown Prince & she says the German Dr confirm the presence of cancer & that he has a bad ashy colour & is still weak.
