8 April 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 8th [April 1888]. We all went to the 10.30 service—& the room looked very nice—desks had been made for the choir & a pulpit. The Bishop did not arrive so the service began without him. He had mistaken the hour & arrived at 11 in the middle of the service. The room was crowded– There were abt 170 persons. The Bishop preached but he is not eloquent nor is his voice agreeable. Went again to the 3 o’cl service with the Selbornes & Lady Sophia & I went to see the Trevelyans. The Holmes Whites came to tea. Cortelazzo also came from Vicenza to see us.
