12 April 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 12th April [1888]. The Murray party left us & went on to Verona so we breakfasted at 8 to see them off. I took Ola out in gondola in the morning. We went to SS. Giov: et Paolo & into the chapel of the hospital to see the picture by Tintoretto which I had never seen before. Ersilia & Maria Cozzi came to luncheon. Afternoon Henry & I went out to leave cards & do last commissions. Mrs Brown, Mr Brown, Mr Symonds & Miss Symonds & Mr Bartlett dined with us & Ola dined down for the first time. Mr Bartlett & Ola both played the piano in the evening. Mrs Brown was very communicative about her son & fears he has taken a fancy for Miss Symonds & there is no hope for our plan. She is a handsome & clever girl.
