1 May 1888 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Tuesday. 1st May [1888]. Wrote, worked & practised guitar. Nela, Count Hatzfeldt & Mary H. came to luncheon. Henry went out in carriage & sent it back to me. Raymond Layard called after lunch. Hatzfeldt was low about the Emperor & thinks it only a question of days. He regretted that the Empress should be so unpopular owing to her manners. Nela & I drove together & returned here to tea. Blanche called in later. We dined at the Misses Duff Gordon & Browning took me to dinner. Met Mr Thompson of Brit: Museum, Mr & Mrs Sneyd, Mr Taylor, Mr & Mrs Poynter.
