10 May 1888 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Thursday. 10th [May 1888]. I went to 22 Dorset Street at 10 to have a first guitar lesson of Mrs Sydney Pratten. An amusing old lady with an absurd way of teaching which nevertheless seems successful. After lunch I drove Henry down to Earls’ Court to see how the Italian Exhibition got up by Mr Whitley is getting on. Nothing is in its place & one cant imagine how it is to be arranged & opened on Saturday. Came here to tea & Mrs W. Hanson came. I went to see Blanche before dinner. We dined at Mr John Murray’s 50 Albemarle St & met the French Ambassador & Mme Waddington, Browning, the Bp of Carlisle & Mrs Goodwin. The Bishop took me down to dinner. In the evening there was a party.
