22 May 1888 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Tuesday. 22nd May [1888]. Henry & I went to luncheon at Lady Trevelyan’s & met a large party amongst them Mrs O’Burne Lady T’s sister & Mr Monteith who sat next me at lunch & was amusing & argumentative but oddly eno’ would drag in religious & theological talk in a jocular way– Henry & I went on to see Lady Tavistock & I got into her carriage & Rachel went with Henry in ours & we drove to the Italian Exhibition & walked about there till 5 & then returned to 37 Chesham Place & had tea with Addie Tavistock. Sir Henry Thompson dined with us at 7.15 & Henry, Kate, Eda, Sir Henry & I went to the theatre. We saw a piece called “Sweet Lavender” at the Court Theatre. Terry acted very well but Miss Molony who did the heroine was very bed—the part did not suit her.
