10 August 1888 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Friday. 10th [August 1888]. I was not so well again & breakfasted in bed. Made salmon flies & in afternoon went with Leo down to the bridge to try them but got nothing. It was very showery & every now & then I had to take refuge from the rain under a tree. Dinner at 5 & after I went to fish Up. & Lr Gredhus & got 2 grilse one in each pool & hooked & played a large salmon in a blinding shower of rain but just as it was to be gaffed my casting line came to pieces & the beast was off. It was a great disappointment & I lost my phantom minnow. Came home & had supper & to bed.
