6 September 1888 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Thursday. 6th [September 1888]. Breakfast at 9. The Bishop of Gibraltar came to see us at 10.30 to talk over Venice chaplain affairs. I went off by 11 to have a guitar lesson of Mrs Sydney Pratten & when I returned home found that my sister Maria & her Nela had come up to spend the day & sleep here. Sir Collingwood & Lady Dickson, Signor Meali an Italian gentleman recommended to us & Raymond came to luncheon so we were a large party. Lady Dickson was looking ill & weak. At 3 Maria, Nela & I went out in a cab. I left them at Woolland’s shop in Knightsbridge & went on to 13 Chesham Street to see Lady Bagot whom I was lucky eno’ to find at home. I left with her own wedding present for Lilah. Returning to Woollands I joined Maria & did my own shopping & we all returned home to tea. Maria & Nela dined with Mama at Langham House. Henry & I dined with old Mr Thomson Hankey 59 Portland Place & met Mr Blake, and old Lady James & Sir Charles Wingfield. We left early & went on to Langham House where Richard Du Cane & Mr Schreiber & young Granville Eliot were also dining. Just before we went to dress for dinner Lilah Bagot & her fiancé Mr Newdigate called to thank us for our wedding present & Granville Eliot called.
