30 September 1888 — Baveno
Sunday. 30th [September 1888]. I & the girls walked up to the lovely little church in the Henfrey’s garden. I sang in the choir. Table d’hôte lunch. Lovely day but not sunny. I went to tea with Henfreys & then afternoon service. Henry took the girls to the Borromean Islands & were very hospitably received by Css Borromeo. Dined at table d’hôte & then made the acquaintance of Mlle de Bunsen & we sat with her on the terrace & had coffee. She told us much about the unpopularity of the Empress Frederich in Germany which we hope is exaggerated.
