1 November 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 1st November [1888]. Being the “morti” Henry took the girls to see the cemeterys. I remained at home all day & wrote a good deal. Marzials came to tea bringing me a handful of green for my large flower glasses for wh I was most thankful but he was chaffed & told it was his tribute to the “morti.” Sr Bonghi arrived abt 5 by train & we sent to the station to meet him. He remained to dinner with us & left again by 11 o’cl train for Milan. We played patience & “sympathy” with him but he got very sleepy before the end of the evening.
