5 November 1888 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Monday. 5th November [1888]. After breakfast in our rooms & packing we went out to the farm to see the oxen ploughing. It was a splendid day & the sun even too hot. It was a very pretty sight to see 4 ploughs & 32 white oxen at work at the same time. We visited the calves & fed them with pumpkins & then went to the stables to see those who were in & also a pretty little calf born two days ago wh out of compliment to Henry is to be called Nimroud. We came in to lunch at 11.30 & then had to go off to the station to return by 2 o’cl train home to Venice. The train was very full & Henry & I got into a carriage where we found Baron de Warsberg the new Consul Genl at Venice. He is returning to his post. On getting home had tea & rested on the divan in the studio & read a novel till dinner. Afternoon dull weather.
