12 November 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 12th [November 1888]. Gave out stores. Ola read aloud to us. At 12 Edith Bronson came & we practised the guitar till lunch. Mrs Eden & Mrs Burr called directly after lunch & the girls went off to the Lido & Edith & I went together & walked on the piazza to meet Henry. We also met Mrs Eden there & took her home in our gondola. We left Edith with her mother & Mr Browning whom we also met. Sir Villiers & Lady Lister, Mr Malcolm & Miss Childe Pemberton & Mr William Childe Pemberton dined with us. The latter brought letters from Sir Arthur Otway. Mr C. Pemberton played the piano well but rather affectedly but when he sang we were almost in fits his attitudes were so grotesque.
